Summer is just around the corner and your teen will be spending more time on the road. Here are tips for keeping your teen safe on the road this summer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set ground rules around using the car. Driving should be limited to daytime hours in the beginning, then gradually allow your teen to drive at night.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Teach by example. Follow the rules of the road, and wear your seatbelt. Make sure to stay off your phone while driving and try not to eat while the car is in motion. Your teenage will take note of the things you do and follow your lead so make sure model safe behaviors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Limit the areas where your teen can drive, at least until he or she has been driving for a while.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Do not allow any passengers in the car for at least six months. They need to understand the rules of the road, and not engage in conversation with friends. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Ensure your car is well maintained. Check the tires regularly, windshield wiper fluid, water, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Drive with them as much as possible in the beginning; pointing out hazards they may come across such as holes, and construction. Mix up the routes so they become used to driving to different places.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">If you don&#8217;t already have one, purchase an emergency road kit, and explain each item to the teen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Teach your teen how to change a tire, how to use road flares, and what to do in an emergency.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">These tips for keeping your teen safe on the road this summer need to be mentioned often to help them remember.
